Marudo Tancho Sanke – 63 cm Female

A valuable koi is prized for more than its size or striking colors. This Marudo Tancho Sanke brings together three traditional colors: a white base, a red Tancho marking on the head, and the distinctive black sumi markings of the Sanke variety.
Collectors often judge a koi by the complete picture: balanced body shape, bright white skin, clean red color, quality sumi, and a pattern that looks harmonious from head to tail. The red Tancho marking is the fish’s signature feature; it is especially admired when it is well defined and balanced against the white skin. At 63 cm, this female also has impressive size—an important factor collectors consider when evaluating a koi’s potential and appeal.
Still, a fish’s exact value cannot be determined from a photograph alone. Skin quality, body shape viewed in person, health, breeder and lineage, and expert evaluation all matter. A high-value koi is the result of many qualities coming together—not simply a large fish or a bold patch of color.
For new koi keepers, the lesson is simple: learn to look at the whole fish—its body, skin, color, and balance. Don’t judge a koi by its price or one eye-catching marking alone.
